Tim Gowers, professor of mathematics at Cambridge University and a former winner of the Fields Medal (the equivalent for maths of the Nobel Prize, but awarded only once every four years), was at CoLA on Monday 3 November to lecture and lead a classroom session on “What is mathematical proof?”

The lecture was from 11:10 to 12:10 in the hall, and the classroom session from 12:10 to 13:10 in 2B5.

After 13:10, our further maths students were invited to continue discussion with Professor Gowers over lunch in the hall.
